Un esemplare di totano gigante (una specie che raramente vive nel Mediterraneo) di circa 1 metro di lunghezza e del peso di 8 chilogrammi è stato rinvenuto nella spiaggia di località Maddalusa del Comune di Agrigento. Il cefalopode si era spiaggiato ed era stato notato dal responsabile della sezione agrigentina della Lega Navale che ha provveduto ad informare la Sala operativa della Capitaneria di Porto. Sul posto è stata inviata una pattuglia della Guardia costiera che provvedeva a recuperare il totano ed effettuare alcuni rilievi fotografici. Si tratta di un esemplare di totano che vive nelle profondità marine, è comune nell’Oceano Atlantico ed è stato segnalato solo raramente nel Mediterraneo, lungo un metro e del peso di 8 chili. Le foto e le misurazioni dell’esemplare di totano gigante sono state, quindi, trasmesse al responsabile del Museo di storia naturale di Comiso, Ragusa, che ha riconosciuto l’interesse scientifico dell’esemplare, in relazione alla sua presenza nel mare di Sicilia. Il Totano gigante spiaggiato a Maddalusa è stato conservato secondo le istruzioni date dal responsabile del Museo, e nelle prossime ore sarà trasferito a Comiso, dove sarà esposto insieme ad altri esemplari della stessa specie, anche più grandi, che lì sono in mostra.
