L’arcivescovo di Agrigento, mons. Francesco Montenegro, Presidente della Commissione Episcopale per le Migrazioni della CEI e Presidente di Migrantes, in merito alle agghiaccianti immagini diffuse dalla televisione nazionale il 16 dicembre scorso, sul Centro di prima accoglienza di Lampedusa, esprime sentimenti di profonda indignazione per il trattamento a cui sono sottoposti i migranti nel Centro di prima accoglienza e chiede che venga fatta chiarezza su quello che i telespettatori hanno potuto vedere e che venga percorsa ogni strada per affermare la verità dei fatti. La situazione emergenziale che si vive all’interno del Centro non può giustificare situazioni e trattamenti che poco hanno a che fare con il rispetto della dignità umana e dei diritti dell’uomo come quelle trasmesse. E questo proprio alla vigilia della Giornata Internazionale dei Diritti dei Migranti, stabilita dall’ONU, il 18 dicembre. Mons. Montenegro chiede che, fino alla completa ristrutturazione del Centro (che si auspica possa avvenire entro tempi brevi), la presenza dei migranti sia limitata a poche ore prima del trasferimento presso strutture che possano garantire gli standards minimi di accoglienza.
