Indigenza, fame, mancanza di lavoro sono tutti ingredienti che ben si addicono alla condizione dei senza tetto che hanno scelto la scala del ponte di via Mazzini come loro residenza fissa per provare a ripararsi dal freddo e dalle intemperie. A qualsiasi ora del giorno, chi usa la scala per spostarsi da una parte all’altra della città, trova qualcuno appostato sulle rampe. Si tratta per lo più di extracomunitari e clochard che non avendo un tetto sotto il quale ripararsi hanno fissato la propria dimora nelle scale. Questa situazione va avanti praticamente da quando è stato inaugurato il ponte di via Mazzini. Situazione che si è ulteriormente aggravata con la chiusura della stazione ferroviaria che prima di chiudere definitivamente i battenti dava ospitalità, in maniera abusiva, a diversi di questi senza tetto.
