Alcuni tesserati del team ciclistico licatese “Mi alzo sui pedali” hanno partecipato alla prima gran fondo Vincenzo Nibali disputata a Messina. Si è trattato di un tracciato di 95 chilometri a cui hanno preso parte il team con Vincenzo Nibali, Michele Scarpone, Giampaolo Caruso del team Katiolla. Gli atleti del team “Mi alzo sui pedali” hanno ottenuto dei buoni piazzamenti. Salvatore Spiteri, nella categoria senior, si è piazzato diciannovesimo. Angelo Mulè, anche lui nella categoria senior, ha chiuso al quarantaquattresimo posto mentre invece Salvatore Zarbo nella categoria debuttanti si è classificato nono. Il giovane atleta licatese poteva anche arrivare secondo, ma purtroppo a trenta chilometri dall’arrivo ha dovuto fare i conti con una brutta caduta. Il tempo impiegato per farsi medicare e ripartire, lo ha costretto ad accontentarsi del nono posto. Il team licatese, domenica prossima 17 maggio, sarà di scena a Santo Stefano di Camastra per un’altra tappa del Gran tour Sicilia. L’esperienza di domenica a Messina è stata però molto importante perché ha permesso ai componenti del gruppo licatese che hanno preso parte alla manifestazione di confrontarsi niente di meno che con Vincenzo Nibali, il corridore originario di Messina che tra le fila dell’Astana ha vinto l’ultima edizione del Tour de France.
